Kayaking on the Li River

Introduction

There are few places in China where you can go kayaking. The Li River is one place.

All timings are approximate and depend upon your paddling experience, fitness and the amount of stops you want to make.

In some places there are small rapids but nothing that is likely to turn you over. This section of the river is not used by the Guilin cruise boats and is generally very peaceful.

During the trip you will see fishermen, water buffaloes and flocks of ducks. You are sure to be amazed by the beauty of the karst peaks the whole time.

You will need to cover up from the sun and ensure that you have plenty to drink.

If you want to take a camera you need some way to prevent it getting splashed.

Both trips start in Fuli. You will be shown to your kayaks here and set on your way. You need no skill in navigation, you only need look out for your escort at the destination.

You are travelling with the current so you do not need to paddle all the time. Feel free to stop and investigate sites of interest or take photos - just don't leave your kayaks unattended.

Kayaking Options

From Fuli to Liugong

Fuli to Liugong is an easy paddle, taking from one and a half hours to two hours. The distance is about 7km but the current is with you.

Liugong is a pleasant little village with several unspoilt buidings. There is a small cafe overlooking the river which can serve basic refreshments. They have an English price list which is quite reasonable.

From Fuli to Puyi

This longer trip takes about three hours. Fuli is a market town. There is a market every day but every third day is a special one. We can advise which days are special days.

Inclusions

Your trip includes transport to Fuli and an escort to the kayaks. You will be given directions so that you when to stop paddling.

You will be met at your destination and transported back to Yangshuo.

We provide life jackets. A guide can escort you for an extra charge (except groups of 6 or more where a guide is provided free of charge).

Scheduled start times

Trips normally start at:

  • 08:00
  • 09:00
  • 12:00
  • 14:00

Other times may be accomodated for groups
