A trip on Li River is an essential part of any trip to the Guilin/Yansghuo area. Every turn reveals more spectacular scenery and interest. Between the gorgeous karst peaks you will see water buffalo, rice paddies, fishermen and lots more.

The Yulong river is the biggest tributary of the Li River in the Yangshuo area, and has it’s own character. Most tourists visit the Yulong river to take a relaxing bamboo raft trip.
Cycle out to this attractive mountain – either through the countryside or along 8 Km of road. You can walk up to and through the 'moon' shaped hole for great views all around.
We can arrange a trip to this very picturesque bridge on the Yulong River. It can easily be incorporated into other itineraries and makes an interesting stop along bike rides or a target for a hike.
Yangshuo abounds in caves: Dragon Gate Water Cave, Water Cave and Silver Cave to name just a few. Inside the fabulous caves you will find stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns, stone curtains and stone pillars. These fantastic shapes are sometimes enhanced by coloured lights and fancy names. If you prefer the natural look be sure to ask.
We recommend Dragon Gate Water Cave (for the adventurous) and Silver Cave (for all others). You can see our comments about the other at the bottom of this page.
We can organize a range of lessons locally. Why not go home from your holiday with a new skill. Choose from:
We can arrange for you to visit a local Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor who specialises in bone issues. She can treat a whole range of ailments with therapeutic massage and/or acupuncture. She will also provide relaxation massages and teach those who would like to know more about this intriguing style of medicine.

A delightful show, directed by Zhang Yi Mou (famous for movies such as 'Hero' and 'The House Of Flying Daggers'). The show is set on the Li River and the lighting of the mountains in the background is truly amazing. Different minorities from this region sing and dance in celebration of their own culture.
Show time: 8 PM
Duration: 1 hour
Location: The show has its own site by the river bank
Cost: 198 RMB/person for a C Class (standard seat)
Cost: 320 RMB/person for a VIP Class
Cost: 680 RMB/person for a President Class
Getting there: We include transfers (to and from) with our entrance tickets. It takes 10 minutes by car and a short walk to your seat. Please allow 40 minutes so as not to miss the start of the show. Otherwise, the site is about a 20-30 minute walk.
Watch this traditional technique from a boat. Highly trained birds catch fish and deliver to their master, for a share. You can see this every evening after dark.
A program of twenty technique demonstrations performed by local students under the direction of Master Feng Fuhao.
Also known as Longji (or referred to by the main villages of Pingan or Dazai)the Rice Terraces of Longsheng (translates as Dragon's Backbone) are a stunning site whatever time of year you choose to go.

We can arrange trips to the Dong village of Chenyang with its wonderful Wind and Rain Bridge and Drum Tower.
Since this is a remote area we do not get many requests. Please ask if you do want more information. We have a good friend in Chenyang who can help us prepare detailed answers.
We are developing contacts throughout southeastern Guizhou and intend to include programs as far as Kaili, and perhaps Guiyang, soon. Feel free to ask about those in the meantime.
Assembling Dragon Cave: Not a bad option but we generally recommend Silver Cave as a more worthwhile trip. This may be of interest if time is short.
Butterfly Cave: A kitsch site which may only be worthwhile if you have younger children
Magical Cave: Far from the biggest or best of the local caves. Has really only opened to take advantage of the traffic heading towards the bamboo rafting.
Shangri-la: This is very definitely a site for big domestic groups only. Some nice scenery but little else is real.
Big Banyan Tree: Although the tree is an attractive feature this site has little else to offer and most western visitors will find the conditions of the animals distressing.

Li River Cruises: Low Water Warning
Zhang Faye, 28 March, 2010
Guangxi is part of the drought-stricken area of south-west China which is currently a top news item nationally.
At the moment the Li River water is very low, so the cruise boats can't start from Guilin nor finish in Yangshuo. Until normal water levels return, the cruises will start from Yangti and finish in Xingping.
